FAQ

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Q: What is WCAnimated?
A: The WCAnimated Project is a fanmade animated adaptation of the bestselling Warriors series by Erin Hunter. We are a group of over 100 artists working together to bring this series to life. The project was founded on October 22nd, 2020, and has since received overwhelming support from the Warrior Cats fandom and beyond!
Q: What is Warriors?
A: Warriors is a young adult novel series written by Erin Hunter and published by HarperCollins. The fantasy series follows the adventures of feral cats living in Clans. The franchise currently has over 50 installments, including story guides and spin-offs, as well as an active and diverse fanbase.
Q: Which of the books will you be adapting?
A: We currently plan to adapt the first six books that make up the first arc, The Prophecies Begin. This includes Into the Wild through The Darkest Hour!
Q: When will the episodes be released?
A: Due to the nature of this project, we are unable to set a hard release date. Our team members are volunteers and work for this project in their free time, so while we do our best to work as efficiently as possible, we still build our progress around the schedules and availability of our team.
Q: How loyal to the books will the series be?
A: While we believe some level of loyalty to the source is valuable, will alter, add or cut scenes, rework dialogue, and change some themes and events for reasons of runtime and in order to better enhance the story and serve its audience.
Q: What inspired this project?
A: WCAnimated is primarily inspired by the Warrior Cats fandom itself! The community is one of the most passionate, artistic, and vibrant out there and we are amazed everyday by the incredible creators and fans.
Q: Is this project officially associated with Warriors or Working Partners?
A: No. This project is entirely fan-made and independently created. We are in no way associated with Erin Hunter or Working Partners.
Q: Where can I watch the episodes?
A: All of our completed episodes will be uploaded onto our YouTube channel where they can be viewed for free!
Q: Who owns the project?
A: While we don’t consider the project “owned” by any one individual, it is largely led and organized by our two head directors, Jupiter and Tune, and our team of department directors! Read more about our team here!
Q: How long until the series is complete?
A: Again, this is not something we are currently able to gauge. It will likely vary from episode to episode, but as we are a volunteer project, release dates and ETAs are subject to change.
Q: Will you create a Season 2 once the first arc is complete?
A: It’s not out of the question! It largely will depend on how long it takes to complete the first arc as well as public interest.
Q: How can I support the project?
A: There are tons of ways to support our project, and we appreciate every single one! Following us on social media, as well as liking, sharing, and commenting on our posts is a huge help! If you want to take it a step further, consider subscribing to our Patreon. Applying to the team when we open applications is also a great way to help the project.

ABOUT THE TEAM

Q: Can I join the team?
A: Yes! We have occasional openings in which you can apply to join our crew in a multitude of roles! When we announce an opening, fill out our application form!
Q: How many team members are there?
A: This changes as people join and depart the project, but we currently have over 100 amazing team members!
Q: Where does the team meet and work?
A: Team members are required to join our Team Discord server, where we all work and develop the project together!
Q: What position on the team is most needed?
A: This answer will change as roles are filled, but generally, we need more background artists and animators.
Q: How much time should a team member be prepared to dedicate to the project?
A: As this is a volunteer position, we don’t expect constant activity or undivided attention. We ask that all team members check in with their department directors every week on Fridays and that they are upfront and honest about their availability to work. Assignments will be given accordingly. Total absence is not acceptable.
Q: Is this a paid position?
A: No. As we are a fan production adapting a copyrighted work, we do not pay our team members; they are all volunteers. We will, however, aid our team members in getting quality programs and resources to better serve their work and the project!

ABOUT THE ART

Q: What inspired the WCAnimated style?
A: The WCA art style is inspired by a number of things. Real life as well as the art of Disney, Cartoon Saloon, and of course, the artists that make up the Warriors fandom.
Q: Can I draw in the WCA style?
A: Of course! We love to see art in our style!
Q: Can I take commissions/make adopts in the WCA style?
A: Because we are a non-profit project, we ask that you do not try to gain profit off of our project’s name/style.
Q: Can I draw fanart for the project?
A: Definitely! Getting fanart always makes our day!
Q: Can I use the designs for MAPs or personal projects?
A: We appreciate that our designs are well-liked and we naturally love the animation community, but we ask that you do not use our designs for MAPs, AMVs, comics, or other projects unrelated to WCA because we’d like to keep our designs associated with our project!
Q: Will the series be 3D or 2D animation?
A: Our series will be 2D animation. Any 3D content you see from us is strictly for reference to aid our artists!

ABOUT APPLICATIONS

Q: When do applications open?
A: We do not currently have set dates when applications open. However, we always announce on our social media accounts when applications do open! Make sure you’re following us so you don’t miss announcements!
Q: How will I know if I’ve been accepted or not?
A: We will contact individuals whose applications have been accepted via the social media/preferred contact provided in the application form. If you are not accepted, you will not be notified. We will make an announcement when all messages have been sent.
Q: Can you give me feedback on my application?
A: No. We cannot give individual feedback on every person’s application. However, if you are subscribed to our Warrior tier or a higher tier on Patreon, you can receive personalized feedback on any applications or portfolios!
Q: What do you look for in an applicant?
A: This depends on what role you happen to be applying for, but generally we look for people with strong fundamentals, artistic adaptability, and a willingness to learn and work! In truth, one of the most important things is to include specific examples of what you’re applying for. If you want to be a storyboard artist, include storyboards in your samples!
Q: Do I need professional experience/education to join the project?
A: No! While some of our team members are industry professionals, many are hobbyist artists or students! There is no experience requirement. We care most about you and your skills, not your background (although it never hurts to have experience)!
Q: Can I apply for multiple roles?
A: Yes. You may apply for as many roles as you wish and can be accepted for just as many! In fact, most of our team members serve in at least two roles!
Q: I didn’t get into the project! Can I reapply?
A: Yes! Don’t be discouraged! You are always welcome to reapply when we open applications again!
Q: Is there an age requirement to apply?
A: As per Discord’s Terms of Service, you must be at least 13 years old before you can apply!

ABOUT CASTING

Q: Do you need voice actors?
A: Yes! We have over a dozen voiced characters in the series and we will need actors to bring them to life!
Q: How do I audition to be a part of the cast?
A: When a casting call goes live, you can join the site Casting Call Club to submit an audition. If you are chosen as a part of our cast, you will be contacted on CCC!
Q: When do auditions open?
A: We do not have a set date, but any live casting calls will be announced across our social media accounts. We will host auditions for a few characters at a time, so there will be multiple casting calls (and multiple chances to audition)!
Q: Is there an age requirement to audition?
A: Actors must be at least 13 years of age, as per Discord’s TOS.
Q: Can I audition for/voice multiple characters?
A: Yes, definitely! You may audition for as many characters as you’d like and you could even be cast in multiple parts!
Q: What kind of accents are allowed?
A: Any and all! All accents are welcome in our project; the most important thing is that you are able to enunciate and emote clearly!
Q: What do you look for in an actor?
A: An ideal actor is able to emote clearly, enunciate, and enhance the story through their performance. We look for all of these things as well as strong characterization and good audio quality.
